Whether you’re sending a document across town or shipping goods overseas, UPS tracking ensures you’re always in the loop.

Tips for Tracking UPS Packages

To get the most out of UPS tracking, follow these tips:

  • Use the official UPS website or mobile app for real-time updates.

  • Sign up for delivery alerts via email or SMS.

  • Track by reference number if you don't have a tracking ID.

  • Use the UPS My Choice® service to manage delivery times and locations.

  • Save your tracking number immediately after shipment to avoid misplacement.

How to Identify a UPS Tracking Number

UPS tracking numbers typically start with “1Z” followed by a 16-character alphanumeric code. These numbers are printed on your receipt and included in confirmation emails.

  • In Transit: Package is moving through the UPS network.

  • Out for Delivery: Package is on the truck for final delivery.

  • Delivered: Package delivered successfully.

Company Overview and History

Founded in 1907 in Seattle, United Parcel Service (UPS) is now one of the world's largest and most trusted logistics companies. With a global network that spans over 220 countries and territories, UPS delivers more than 20 million packages daily. Its legacy of innovation, reliability, and customer service has made UPS a cornerstone of international shipping.

UPS Common Questions:

Can you ship directly to a UPS store? How?

Yes, you can rent a mailbox at The UPS Store of your choice and use the street address there to receive mail or packages of any type. It's like having a PO Box that's not at the Post Office. Downside to that is you don't have 24/7 access. You can only receive you items when the store itself is open

When can I start tracking a UPS package?

About 5 minutes after someone (or some thing) at UPS scanned it for the first time. Generally by 9pm (Local Time where it was shipped from) it should have been scanned by UPS.

If the package is being shipped by one of the Mega-Online Sellers/Shippers it can be deposited at any point 24x7 into the UPS System in some locations. (It could also have a UPS tracking number by moved by the shipper, via 3rd party transportation, and deposited into the UPS system near the delivery point,

What do I do if UPS says delivered but there is no package?

  • call 1 (800) 742-5877 - speak with customer service for tracking update.
  • ask neighbors
  • wait 24 hours after the expected delivery date and tim to file a claim
  • Start a claim with UPS here
