Inbound items keep the country code of the posting country rather than SE. Why Sweden Posten Tracking Is Not Updating or Not Working

Most reports of PostNord tracking not updating describe a parcel moving normally between two scans rather than a tracker that is down.

Awaiting the first scan. A number that returns no information usually belongs to a label the retailer has bought but not yet handed over. PostNord cannot scan an item it does not hold, and the number stays inactive until intake. Waiting one to two working days after the dispatch email clears most of these cases.

In transit between terminals. Sweden runs about 1,570 kilometres from Smygehuk in the south to Treriksröset in the north, and a parcel crossing a long stretch of that can go a day or more without a scan while it sits on a line-haul trailer. A missing event is not evidence of a missing parcel, and the next terminal scan closes the gap.

Customs clearance. Inbound items from outside the EU stop moving until a declaration is filed and charges are paid. Since 1 July 2026 duty applies to consignments of any value, so more parcels than before pause at this stage, and the status can sit on customs handling for several days while the recipient is contacted for payment.

Failed delivery attempt. An item requiring a signature that finds nobody at home is taken to a postombud, and the tracker switches to a collection status. The parcel is held for a limited period and then returned to the sender, so the deadline on the collection notice matters more than the tracker does.

Wrong number or missing postcode. A webshop order reference entered into PostNord's tracker returns nothing, because only the S10 code and the numeric kolli-id are recognised. Items not yet linked to an address may also require the Swedish postcode before they resolve.

A letter that was never trackable. Ordinary stamped letters carry no barcode and generate no events at all. Only registered mail, express mail and trackable goods-letter products produce a scan history, so a plain letter will never appear in the tracker no matter how long it is given.

Delivery and Transit Times

Parcels are still delivered every day in Sweden, and it is only the letter stream whose frequency changed in 2026. A domestic parcel handed over before the terminal cut-off generally reaches a service point or locker in the destination town within 1-3 working days, with the longer end of that range applying to the sparsely populated inland north.

Distance inside Sweden is the main variable. Line hauls between the Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö terminals run overnight, so a parcel posted in one of the three metropolitan areas for delivery in another is typically available the next working day. Routes into Norrland, and onward to Kiruna, Gällivare and the mountain municipalities, add a day or more, and island destinations such as Gotland depend on ferry and air connections. These figures are estimates rather than guarantees, and PostNord publishes an address-level lookup showing the current delivery day for a given postcode.

Cross-border times follow the product rather than the distance. PostNord Express reaches most European destinations in 1 to 3 working days and the rest of the world in 2 to 5, while economy parcel and letter-post products travelling under the UPU framework depend on the destination post and can take several weeks outside Europe.

Letter Delivery Moves to a Three-Day Standard

Sweden's postal ordinance changed on 16 June 2026, and PostNord is no longer required to deliver letters every other working day. The quality standard now set by Post- och telestyrelsen is that at least 85 percent of domestic letters arrive within three working days and at least 97 percent within five working days, replacing the previous rule that 95 percent had to arrive within two. PTS announced the new requirement on 17 June 2026, and the change aligns Sweden's domestic standard with the EU postal directive's benchmark for cross-border mail.

The change reaches letters, newspapers and advertising, and not parcels. Parcels continue to be delivered daily, and mail to PO boxes, mail addressed to service points and Expressbrev also keep a daily delivery. PostNord began piloting a two-fixed-days delivery model on 4 May 2026 in south-eastern Skåne and on Hisingen in Gothenburg before extending the pattern more widely.

This is a slowdown and not a shutdown, and the distinction matters because the Danish half of the same group went the other way. PostNord Denmark stopped handling letters after more than four centuries, carrying mail up to and including 30 December 2025 and running a parcels-only business in Denmark from 2026. PostNord drew the line between the two countries explicitly when it announced the Danish decision.

Claims for a lost or damaged item follow the contract of carriage, which sits between PostNord and the sender rather than the recipient. The sender is normally the party that files a search request or a compensation claim, which is why PostNord and Swedish retailers both direct recipients to contact the webshop first. Damage should be documented at the moment of collection, with photographs of the packaging and the contents and a note of the damage made at the service point, because that record supports the sender's later claim. Compensation depends on the product used and on whether the item was insured, and an ordinary uninsured letter carries no compensation entitlement at all.
