Canpar Tracking
Canpar tracking follows parcels moving through Canpar Express, a Canadian small-parcel courier founded in 1976 and now part of TFI International. Paste a Canpar tracking number into the tracker on this page to see the latest scan, the current status, and the expected delivery. A Canpar tracking number is a 22-character code (one letter followed by 21 digits) printed on the shipping label and included in the shipping confirmation email.
Canpar Tracking Number Format
A Canpar Express tracking number is a 22-character alphanumeric code made up of one leading letter and 21 numeric digits, for example D576005060000106687001. The leading letter identifies the shipment or barcode type, and the digits encode the terminal, shipper, and sequential package identifiers that Canpar scans through its network.
The tracking number is also called the barcode number or, on some order confirmations, the reference or shipment number. Canpar distinguishes the barcode number (the scannable ID on the label) from a shipper reference number that a business assigns to its own order; the barcode number is the one the tracker on this page reads. Canpar also issues shorter identifiers for specific events: a return tag number starts with the letter R followed by 8 digits, and a delivery notice number begins with W followed by 8 or 9 digits.
Because the barcode alone does not always resolve a shipment on Canpar's own portal, Canpar's site lets a sender track by barcode or reference number together with either the shipper number or the destination postal code. The tracker on this page needs only the 22-character barcode number.
Where to Find a Canpar Tracking Number
A Canpar tracking number appears in several places once a parcel is shipped:
- The shipping confirmation email or SMS sent by the online store after the order is dispatched.
- The order or account page of the retailer, usually under "Track order" or "Shipment details".
- The printed Canpar shipping label on the parcel, next to or beneath the barcode.
- A Canpar delivery notice (a card left after a missed delivery), which carries a W-prefixed notice number.
The retailer's own order ID is not the Canpar tracking number. The order ID identifies the purchase in the store's system, while the 22-character barcode number identifies the parcel in Canpar's network. When a package has not shipped yet, only the order ID exists; the Canpar barcode number appears once the label is created and the parcel is scanned into the network.
Canpar Tracking Number Example
Canpar uses a small set of number formats for shipments, returns, and delivery notices. The table lists the known patterns, their typical length, and where each is seen. The leading letter marks the barcode or event type; Canpar does not publish a public letter-to-service key, so a specific leading letter should be read as a "commonly seen" pattern rather than a guaranteed service indicator.
| Format / Pattern | Typical length | What it indicates / where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| 1 letter + 21 digits (e.g. D576005060000106687001) | 22 characters | Standard Canpar Express barcode / tracking number on the label and in the shipping confirmation email |
| Leading letter D, S, L, K, C, U, Z, or X + digits | Up to 22 characters | Commonly seen barcode prefixes for different shipment or barcode types; the letter alone does not reliably indicate the service level |
| R + 8 digits | 9 characters | Return tag number for a Canpar return shipment |
| W + 8 or 9 digits | 9-10 characters | Delivery notice number, printed on the card left after a missed delivery attempt |
| Shipper reference number | Varies | A code the sending business assigns to its own order; used with a shipper number or postal code, not a substitute for the barcode |
Canpar Tracking Status Guide
Canpar tracking moves a parcel through a sequence of scan events from pickup to delivery, and each status describes where the parcel is in the network. The table below explains the statuses a Canpar shipment commonly shows and what each one means for the recipient.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pending | The label has been created but the parcel has not yet been handed to Canpar, or the shipment is scheduled to be processed later. No movement has been recorded. |
| Picked Up | Canpar has collected the parcel from the shipper and entered it into the network. The first scan is recorded at the origin terminal. |
| In Transit | The parcel is moving between the origin terminal and the destination terminal. No intermediate scans are added while it travels; the next update appears on arrival. |
| Arrived at Terminal | The parcel has reached a Canpar terminal, often the destination terminal, and has been scanned in for sorting and local dispatch. |
| On Vehicle for Delivery / Out for Delivery | The parcel is loaded on a Canpar delivery vehicle and is expected to be delivered that day, typically between morning and early evening local time. |
| Delivery Attempted | A driver attempted delivery but no one was available to receive the parcel. A delivery notice may be left, or the parcel may be redirected to a SMARTSpot pickup location. |
| Available for Pickup | The parcel is held at a Canpar terminal or a nearby SMARTSpot location for the recipient to collect. |
| Delivered | The parcel has reached its destination. The scan records the delivery date and, where applicable, the location or signature. |
| Exception | An event has interrupted normal delivery, such as an address problem, a weather delay, or a held parcel. The tracking detail explains the reason and any action needed. |
Why Canpar Tracking Is Not Updating or Not Working
Canpar tracking that is not updating usually reflects a real gap between scans rather than a broken tracker. The most common reasons are below.
Awaiting the first scan. A newly created label shows no information until Canpar physically collects the parcel and records the first "Picked Up" scan. If the shipper made the label but has not yet handed the parcel over, the status stays Pending and the tracker shows no movement.
In transit between terminals. While a parcel travels from the origin terminal to the destination terminal it is "In Transit" and no additional scans are added until it arrives. Long-haul legs across provinces can leave the status unchanged for a day or more, which is normal.
Failed delivery attempt. If a driver attempted delivery and no one was available, the parcel may be held or moved to a nearby SMARTSpot. Checking the delivery notice (the W-prefixed card) or the tracking detail shows where the parcel is waiting.
Wrong number or missing detail. A mistyped barcode, or entering a retailer order ID instead of the 22-character Canpar number, returns no result. Canpar's own portal may also ask for the destination postal code alongside the number.
Genuinely delayed. Weather, peak-season volume, or an address exception can stall a parcel between scans. When tracking has not updated for several business days, the sender should be contacted first, as the shipper opens the trace with Canpar.
Canpar Services and Delivery Times
Canpar Express runs a focused set of ground and expedited parcel services within Canada plus cross-border delivery to the United States. The table summarizes the main services and their typical delivery windows.
| Service | Coverage | Typical delivery |
|---|---|---|
| Canpar Ground | Coast to coast across Canada | Economical ground delivery with consistent transit times by region |
| Canpar Select | Rush shipments within Canada | Next business day within the region, two business days across the country (some restrictions apply), with a money-back delivery guarantee |
| Canpar Overnight | Domestic express | Time-definite express delivery for domestic shipments |
| Canpar USA | Continental United States | Ground and express options for cross-border parcels |
The maximum weight per piece is 150 pounds for domestic Ground and Select shipments and 70 pounds for shipments to the United States. Canpar applies dimensional weight using a minimum of 12.4 pounds per cubic foot for Ground and 15 pounds per cubic foot for Select, so bulky lightweight parcels are billed on their volume.
Delivery and Transit Times Across Canada
Canpar delivers to all ten Canadian provinces from coast to coast, supported by more than 55 terminals. Delivery is made as early as 10 AM and as late as 8 PM local time, with business-address deliveries typically completed by 6 PM local time.
Transit time depends on the distance between the origin and destination terminals. Intra-provincial and regional shipments on Canpar Select are delivered the next business day, while coast-to-coast shipments across the country take about two business days on Select and longer on Ground. For point-to-point estimates, Canpar publishes a transit-time lookup on its portal. Recipients tracking a Canpar parcel from a Canadian retailer can compare service speed with national alternatives such as Canada Post and Purolator, which also carry a large share of Canadian e-commerce parcels.
SMARTSpot Pickup and Delivery Notices
Canpar operates more than 800 SMARTSpot pickup locations across Canada, typically local convenience stores and retail counters. When a recipient is not home, the driver can leave the parcel at a nearby SMARTSpot or leave a delivery notice, and the recipient collects the parcel at a convenient time, often with extended evening or weekend hours.
A Canpar delivery notice carries a W-prefixed notice number and explains where the parcel is held and how to arrange pickup or redelivery. The recipient uses the notice number or the original tracking number to confirm the pickup point.
Returns and Claims
Canpar supports returns through return tag numbers, which begin with the letter R followed by 8 digits and are tracked the same way as an outbound shipment. A business arranges the return label, and the recipient hands the parcel to Canpar or drops it at a designated point.
For a lost or damaged parcel, a claim can be filed with Canpar. Damage claims must be filed within 60 days of the delivery date so the parcel can be inspected. A claim generally requires the tracking number, the shipping name, the shipment date, the consignee name and address, the parcel weight, and the number of packages. For non-delivery or loss, the shipper contacts Canpar customer service to open a trace.
Which Countries Does Canpar Deliver To?
Canpar international tracking covers a focused footprint: Canpar Express is a domestic Canadian courier that also delivers to the continental United States, rather than a global network. Within Canada it serves all ten provinces coast to coast through its terminal network, and cross-border parcels move on its USA ground and express services.
For destinations beyond Canada and the United States, parcels are typically handed to an international carrier or postal partner, and tracking continues under that carrier's number once the parcel leaves the Canpar network. Recipients expecting a parcel from outside North America usually see the final Canadian leg, or a partner handoff, reflected in Canpar's scans.
- Domestic (Canada): British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador.
- North America (cross-border): the continental United States via Canpar USA ground and express services.
Cross-Border Customs and the United States
Cross-border Canpar parcels to the United States pass through customs clearance before final delivery, and the tracking status may show a customs or exchange step during that stage. The maximum weight for a single US-bound piece is 70 pounds, lower than the 150-pound domestic limit.
For shipments handed to a US or international partner for final delivery, the parcel is scanned out of Canpar's network and delivered by the destination carrier. Duties and taxes on cross-border parcels are the responsibility of the party named on the shipment, and a customs hold can appear as an Exception status until clearance completes.
Marketplace and Retailer Deliveries
Canpar Express carries parcels for Canadian online retailers and marketplace sellers, so a Canpar tracking number often follows an order placed on a major shopping platform. Sellers on Amazon and eBay that ship within Canada, along with Shopify-based stores and other domestic e-commerce sites, use Canpar as a lower-cost alternative to the national postal operator for ground parcels.
Because many Canadian merchants offer more than one carrier at checkout, the same order may arrive via Canpar, Canada Post, or Purolator depending on the destination and service chosen. The 22-character barcode number in the shipping confirmation email identifies which network is carrying the parcel, and pasting it into the tracker on this page shows the current status.
