DHL Spain Domestic Tracking

DHL Spain Domestic is the road parcel network DHL runs inside Spain and Portugal under the DHL eCommerce Iberia brand, a business with no depots, drivers or tracking screens in common with the DHL Express air operation that shares its name. DHL Spain Domestic tracking therefore reports road linehauls between 23 mechanized hubs and 56 Iberian delegations rather than air waybills through a customs gateway, on a network that quotes 24 to 48 hours across the peninsula. DHL has put 25 million euros into automating its Getafe hub in Madrid and 17 million into Santa Perpètua de Mogoda in Barcelona, where sortation doubled to 17,000 parcels an hour, and the Iberian pickup estate runs to more than 3,900 DHL ServicePoints. Ceuta, Melilla and the Canary Islands are domestic for postage but foreign for customs.

DHL Spain Domestic or DHL Express? Telling the Two Networks Apart

Two different DHL companies deliver parcels in Spain, and they share almost nothing except the brand. DHL eCommerce Iberia, the operator behind DHL Spain Domestic, is a road-based parcel carrier for shipments that start and finish inside Spain and Portugal. DHL Express is a separate DHL division that flies time-definite international shipments and issues a 10-digit air waybill number, tracked in MyDHL+ rather than in the Spanish parcel portal.

The distinction matters because the two networks do not share depots, delivery drivers, customer service teams or tracking screens. A Spanish domestic parcel scanned into DHL eCommerce Iberia will never appear in a DHL Express waybill lookup, and an inbound Express shipment from outside the EU will not be handled by a Spanish parcel delegation. The number itself is the fastest way to tell which one is carrying the parcel.

The same split exists in other DHL markets, which is why a Spanish parcel and a British one behave differently: DHL Parcel UK is the equivalent domestic parcel arm in the United Kingdom, with its own numbering and its own depots. Treat DHL as a group of companies rather than one carrier and the tracking behaviour stops looking arbitrary.

DHL Spain Domestic Tracking Number Format

DHL publishes no single fixed pattern for its Spanish domestic parcel numbers. Its own tracking help defines the identifier by length rather than by shape:

"A tracking number or ID is a combination of numbers and letters that identifies your shipment and can be between 10 and 39 characters. Remember to always write all digits in uppercase and without spaces (except hyphens)." (DHL, Spain tracking help, 2026.)

In DHL eCommerce Iberia paperwork the identifier is called the número de envío or número de expedición. It is printed under the main barcode on the label and it is the string a Spanish online store pastes into its shipping confirmation. Labels produced through DHL eCommerce Europe's eConnect platform, which covers Spain, carry a machine-readable identifier built to a recognised barcode standard:

"All labels generated by the eConnect API come with an unique shipment identifier barcode (ASC MH10, GS1 or S10 format) which is assigned by the service. They are unique for at least 13 months, before they are used again for another shipment." (DHL Group API Developer Portal, eConnect, 2026.)

Two practical consequences follow. Reuse after 13 months explains why a very old reference can resolve to somebody else's parcel, and the 10 to 39 character rule means length alone never proves a number invalid. The one hard boundary is the contrast with DHL Express: a bare 10-digit numeric string is an Express air waybill, not a Spanish domestic parcel reference.

Where to Find a DHL Spain Domestic Tracking Number

The sender generates the number, so it always reaches the recipient through the shop or the business that shipped the parcel, never from DHL directly. The usual places it appears:

  • The dispatch confirmation email from the online store, under a heading such as "número de seguimiento" or "tracking number".
  • The order detail page in the shop's account area, next to the carrier name DHL eCommerce or DHL Parcel.
  • The SMS or email notification DHL sends once the parcel is scanned into a Spanish delegation, if the sender supplied contact details.
  • The parcel label itself, printed as text directly beneath the largest barcode.
  • The despatch note handed over when a parcel is dropped off at a DHL ServicePoint.

An order number is not a tracking number. Spanish stores commonly issue an internal reference that DHL's systems have never seen, and entering it returns nothing. Unlike DHL's German and Dutch parcel services, which the DHL Shipment Tracking API documents as accepting a recipient postcode as a second qualifier, the Spanish domestic lookup is driven by the shipment number on its own.

DHL Spain Domestic Tracking Number Example

DHL publishes no prefix-to-service map for its parcel brands, so the patterns below are described by where they are seen rather than by an official meaning. A prefix on its own does not reliably identify which DHL company is carrying a parcel.

PatternTypical lengthWhere it is seen and what it indicates
All-numeric shipment numberWithin DHL's stated 10 to 39 charactersThe standard DHL eCommerce Iberia número de envío, printed under the label barcode and forwarded by the sending shop. The most common shape on a domestic Spanish parcel.
JVGL plus a numeric stringWithin the 10 to 39 character rangeCommonly seen on DHL eCommerce Europe consignments, including Iberian ones. DHL documents no service meaning for the prefix.
JJD plus a numeric stringWithin the 10 to 39 character rangeCommonly seen across both DHL eCommerce and DHL Express consignments, which is exactly why the prefix cannot decide which network holds the parcel.
3S plus a numeric stringWithin the 10 to 39 character rangeCommonly seen on DHL parcel labels produced in the Benelux network and on cross-border items routed through it into Spain.
S10 code: two letters, nine digits, a two-letter country code13 characters, ending ES on Spanish-origin itemsA UPU S10 identifier, one of the three barcode standards eConnect labels may use. Seen on cross-border Parcel Connect items rather than purely domestic ones.
Ten numeric digits, for example 1234567890Exactly 10A DHL Express air waybill, not a DHL Spain Domestic reference. It belongs in MyDHL+ and draws a blank in the Spanish parcel portal.

DHL Spain Domestic Tracking Status Guide

DHL eCommerce Iberia writes its tracking events in Spanish, and three of its labels carry definitions narrower than they look. DHL defines en tránsito as a shipment whose expected delivery date has not yet passed, en reparto as a parcel ready to hand over and waiting for the next delivery round, and incidencia as a shipment whose expected delivery date has already passed. Events begin to appear within 24 to 48 hours of the tracking number being issued, so an unrecognised number on day one is normal rather than a fault.

StatusDescription
Envío registrado / datos recibidosThe sender has created the label and passed the shipment data to DHL. The parcel has not been physically scanned yet, so no movement shows.
RecogidoDHL has collected the parcel from the shipper or accepted it at a ServicePoint. This is the first scan that proves the parcel exists in the network.
En tránsitoThe parcel is moving between depots or hubs and the expected delivery date has not passed. A day between scans on a linehaul is normal.
En hub / clasificadoThe parcel has been sorted at one of the 23 mechanized hubs, such as Getafe for Madrid or Santa Perpètua de Mogoda for Barcelona.
En delegación de destinoThe parcel has reached the local delegation that serves the delivery address and is waiting to be loaded onto a round.
En repartoThe parcel is with the driver for the current round. From this point only a neighbour or concierge delivery can still be arranged.
EntregadoThe parcel has been handed over at the address.
Entregado a vecino / porteroA neighbour or the building concierge accepted the parcel, an outcome DHL eCommerce Iberia offers as a standard alternative to a failed attempt.
Disponible en ServicePointThe parcel is waiting at a pickup point. It stays collectable for 10 calendar days, with a reminder after 7 days, then returns to the sender automatically.
Ausente / intento de entregaNobody was available at the address. The recipient can pick a ServicePoint, a neighbour, a new date, or a new address within the same province.
IncidenciaThe expected delivery date has passed. DHL only accepts an incidencia on shipments still pending delivery.
En aduana / pendiente de despachoThe parcel is held for customs clearance. On a domestic Spanish route this happens only for the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla.
Devuelto al remitenteThe parcel is going back to the shipper, typically after the 10-day ServicePoint window closed or the address could not be resolved.

Wording varies slightly between DHL's public tracking page and the business-facing Live Tracking portal, so the same event can read differently depending on where it is checked.

Why DHL Spain Domestic Tracking Is Not Updating or Not Working

Most cases where DHL Spain Domestic tracking is not updating, not working, or apparently down come from one of six situations, and only one of them is a genuine failure.

Waiting for the first scan. A number issued by the shop goes live only once DHL physically scans the parcel, and DHL states that events start appearing within 24 to 48 hours of the tracking ID being received. A "not found" result inside that window means the shop printed the label before handing the parcel over, not that the parcel is lost.

Moving between hubs. A road linehaul from a delegation in Andalusia to one in Galicia can run overnight with no intermediate scan. Silence for 24 hours in en tránsito is normal on a 24/48 hour network; silence for three working days is not.

The number belongs to DHL Express. A 10-digit numeric string entered into the Spanish parcel tracker returns nothing, because it is an air waybill and needs MyDHL+ instead. This is the single most common reason a valid DHL number appears to be broken in Spain.

The shop sent an order reference. Internal shop references never resolve, because DHL's system has never been given them. Confirmation emails normally carry both numbers, and only the one labelled as a tracking or shipment number will work.

Held at customs for the islands or the enclaves. Parcels to the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla cross a customs border even though the origin is Spain, and tracking legitimately pauses at en aduana until the DUA is cleared and the local taxes are settled.

An unanswered incidencia. Once DHL raises an incidencia, the parcel usually stops moving until the sender or the recipient replies. The sender should be contacted first, because DHL's contract for a shop's parcel is with the shop and not with the person waiting for it.

Services and Delivery Times Compared

DHL eCommerce Iberia sells six named parcel products across Spain and Portugal, all capped at 31.5 kg for a standard single parcel. The domestic B2C and B2B products both quote 24 to 48 hours across the mainland, and the difference between them is the payload rather than the speed.

Parcel IberiaB2C home delivery for online storesMainland Spain and PortugalUp to 31.5 kg per parcel, 24 to 48 hours
Parcel ServicePointB2C delivery to a pickup pointMore than 3,900 ServicePoints across Iberia, over 1,000 of them in PortugalUp to 31.5 kg per parcel, 10 calendar days to collect

None of these is an air product. Anything sold as time-definite, next-morning or intercontinental belongs to DHL Express, which prices and tracks separately.

Delivery Windows Across Mainland Spain and the Islands

The 24 to 48 hour promise applies to peninsular Spain, and the network behind it is geographically concentrated: roughly 60 percent of parcels entering and leaving Spain move through Catalonia, which is why the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda hub was doubled to 17,000 parcels per hour in 2025. The ranges below are estimates drawn from DHL's service descriptions and its shipping guidance, not guarantees.

RouteTypical transit (estimate)What drives it

Redelivery, ServicePoints and Damage Claims

DHL eCommerce Iberia gives a recipient more control before the driver sets off than after. Until the parcel goes en reparto, the delivery can be postponed by up to 7 working days, redirected to a DHL ServicePoint, left with a neighbour or the building concierge, or moved to a different address within the same province. Once the status flips to en reparto, the only options left are the neighbour and the concierge.

A parcel that lands at a ServicePoint is held for 10 calendar days. DHL notifies the recipient by email when it arrives and sends a reminder after 7 days, or an SMS when the sender supplied no email address. On the tenth day an automatic process returns the parcel to the sender and collection is no longer possible, which is the mechanism behind most "returned to sender" outcomes on Spanish parcels.

Damage runs on a short clock. Visible damage should be reported to the driver at the door, and DHL eCommerce Spain's claims pages set a limit of 7 calendar days to report damage on a domestic shipment through its complaints form, against 7 working days on an international one. A claim needs the shipment reference and photographs of the parcel and its contents. Where the parcel came from a shop, the shop remains DHL's contracting party and normally has to lodge or support the claim.

Cross-Border Customs and Shipments to the Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are the biggest single source of confusion on Spanish domestic parcels, because a shipment from Madrid to Las Palmas is domestic for postage and foreign for customs. The archipelago sits outside the EU VAT area and the EU customs union, so a Documento Único Administrativo (DUA), the single administrative customs document, has to accompany the parcel, and the islands levy IGIC (Impuesto General Indirecto Canario) in place of mainland VAT, plus AIEM on certain goods. Ceuta and Melilla sit outside the customs union on the same basis.

The effect on tracking is a legitimate pause. A parcel can rest at en aduana or pendiente de despacho for days while the DUA is processed and import taxes are settled, and none of that time counts against the 24 to 48 hour peninsular promise. DHL reports clearing about 95 percent of correctly documented Express shipments on the day they arrive in the Canaries, a useful ceiling for what good looks like, though incomplete paperwork removes that speed entirely.

Duties and taxes fall on the importer, which for a consumer order means the recipient unless the shop sold on a delivered-duty-paid basis. A shop that ships to the Canaries without producing the DUA correctly is the most common reason a Canarian order stalls, and the sender is the only party that can fix the paperwork.

Which Countries Does DHL Spain Domestic Deliver To?

DHL Spain Domestic is by design a two-country network: mainland Spain and Portugal, served from 56 Iberian delegations, of which 53 are in Spain and 3 in Portugal. DHL Spain Domestic international tracking exists only in the sense that the same operator hands parcels into DHL eCommerce Europe's cross-border products, Parcel Connect and Parcel Connect Plus, which reach the DHL eCommerce Europe and partner countries.

Domestic coverage runs to every province of peninsular Spain, with the Balearic Islands inside the EU customs and VAT territory, and the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla reachable but customs-controlled. The heaviest volumes concentrate on the Madrid and Barcelona hubs at Getafe and Santa Perpètua de Mogoda, with regional delegations feeding cities including Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Bilbao, Málaga, Murcia, Vigo and Palma.

Through Parcel Connect, an Iberian parcel can be delivered or collected at a service point in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden and the United Kingdom. Beyond Europe the parcel stops being a DHL eCommerce Iberia shipment: intercontinental traffic moves as DHL Express air freight under a 10-digit waybill, and the tracking screen changes with it.

Marketplace Collaborations

DHL's largest named marketplace relationship in Spain sits in a different DHL division: DHL Supply Chain runs fulfilment for Miravia, the Alibaba Group marketplace built for Spain, from a centre at Ontígola near Toledo, handling an estimated 1 million orders a year across warehousing, picking, returns and the handoff to last-mile carriers. That handoff, rather than an exclusive carriage deal, is the normal shape of DHL's marketplace work on the Peninsula.

For domestic parcels, DHL eCommerce Iberia is sold as a checkout carrier rather than as any marketplace's in-house courier. Spanish online stores plug it into Shopify, PrestaShop and WooCommerce through shipping platforms, and shoppers meet the DHL eCommerce or DHL Parcel name at checkout alongside Spanish operators such as GLS Spain. Spain has become the fourth-largest e-commerce market in Europe by parcel volume, which is what pulled DHL's automation money into Getafe and Barcelona.

Cross-border marketplace parcels behave differently. Orders from Shein and Temu reach Spanish addresses through a mix of consolidators and last-mile carriers that varies by order, and the reference shown in the marketplace app is frequently its own internal number rather than a DHL shipment number. When a marketplace order genuinely rides a DHL leg, the confirmation names DHL and supplies a number DHL's tracker recognises; when it does not, no DHL portal will resolve it, whatever the parcel's eventual carrier turns out to be.

About DHL Spain Domestic

DHL Spain Domestic is the trading face of DHL eCommerce Iberia, part of the DHL eCommerce division of DHL Group, and it kept the legal name DHL Parcel Iberia, S.L.U. through the rebrand. The rename took effect on 1 July 2023, when DHL harmonised the units trading as DHL Parcel in several countries under the DHL eCommerce banner, and DHL was explicit that the change touched the brand and not the legal entities. Anyone holding an older invoice, contract or label reading DHL Parcel Iberia is holding a document from the same company.

The Iberian network today runs from 56 delegations, 23 mechanized hubs and five integrated logistics centres, backed by more than 3,900 DHL ServicePoints across the Peninsula and access to a European pickup network of more than 100,000 service points and parcel lockers. DHL put 25 million euros into automating the Getafe hub in Madrid and a further 17 million into Santa Perpètua de Mogoda in Barcelona, where sortation capacity doubled to 17,000 parcels per hour in 2025. DHL states that its Iberian business carries more than 80 years of experience in business-to-business shipping, the oldest part of the operation and the reason its B2B pallet products sit alongside its e-commerce ones.

What DHL Spain Domestic is not is DHL's international express arm. DHL Express runs its own Spanish hubs, including an international facility at Barcelona El Prat airport, on separate systems with separate numbers. The two are related by ownership and by nothing else a parcel recipient will ever touch.

DHL Spain Domestic Common Questions:

How do I track a DHL Spain Domestic parcel?

Enter the shipment number (número de envío) from the shop's dispatch email on DHL's Spain tracking page, or in the DHL Parcel Live Tracking portal at clientesparcel.dhl.es. The number comes from the sender rather than from DHL, so if the shop has not supplied one there is nothing to look up yet.

Which DHL company actually delivers domestic parcels in Spain?

DHL eCommerce Iberia, the road parcel operator formerly branded DHL Parcel Iberia and still registered as DHL Parcel Iberia, S.L.U. It belongs to the DHL eCommerce division and is separate from DHL Express, which handles international air shipments on its own network, with its own depots, customer service and tracking tool.

What does a DHL Spain Domestic tracking number look like?

DHL defines its tracking IDs as 10 to 39 characters of numbers and letters, written in uppercase with no spaces. On a Spanish domestic parcel this is usually a long numeric shipment number, sometimes with a letter prefix such as JVGL or JJD. DHL does not publish a prefix-to-service map, so a prefix alone does not reveal which DHL unit holds the parcel.

My DHL number is 10 digits and nothing is found. Why?

A bare 10-digit numeric number is a DHL Express air waybill, not a DHL Spain Domestic shipment number, and it has to be entered in MyDHL+ instead of the Spanish parcel tracker. This is the most frequent reason a perfectly valid DHL number appears to be "not working" in Spain.

Why is my DHL Spain Domestic tracking not updating?

DHL states that events start appearing 24 to 48 hours after the tracking ID is issued, so a new number that returns nothing is simply waiting for the parcel to be scanned into a delegation. After that, a 24-hour gap during an overnight linehaul between hubs is normal. Tracking that has been stuck for three or more working days, or that shows an incidencia, needs the sender to open a case with DHL.

What does "en tránsito" mean on DHL tracking?

DHL defines en tránsito as a shipment whose expected delivery date has not yet passed. It means the parcel is inside the network and still on schedule, not that it is physically moving at that moment.

What does "en reparto" mean?

DHL defines en reparto as a parcel that is ready to be handed over and waiting to be added to the next delivery round. Once a parcel is en reparto, the only delivery changes still available are delivery to a neighbour or to the building concierge.

What does "incidencia" mean on a DHL Spain parcel?

An incidencia means the expected delivery date has passed. DHL accepts an incidencia only on shipments still pending delivery, and the parcel usually stays put until the sender or the recipient responds to it.

How long does DHL hold a parcel at a ServicePoint in Spain?

10 calendar days. DHL emails the recipient when the parcel reaches the ServicePoint and sends a reminder after 7 days, or an SMS when no email address was supplied. After the tenth day an automatic process returns the parcel to the sender and it can no longer be collected.

What happens if I am not at home when DHL tries to deliver?

Before the parcel goes out for delivery, it can be postponed by up to 7 working days, redirected to a ServicePoint, left with a neighbour or the concierge, or sent to another address within the same province. Once the parcel is en reparto, only the neighbour and concierge options remain, and a failed attempt normally ends with the parcel waiting at a ServicePoint.

How fast is DHL Spain Domestic delivery?

DHL quotes 24 to 48 hours across mainland Spain and Portugal for its domestic parcel products. Treat that as an estimate: same-province deliveries usually land in one working day, city to city in one to two, and rural postcodes can take two to three.

Why is my parcel to the Canary Islands stuck at customs?

The Canary Islands sit outside the EU customs union and the EU VAT area, so a parcel from mainland Spain is treated as an export even though both ends are Spanish. It needs a DUA (a single administrative customs document), and IGIC plus AIEM may be due. Tracking legitimately pauses at en aduana until the paperwork clears, and only the sender can correct missing documentation. Ceuta and Melilla work the same way.

What is the maximum weight for a DHL Spain Domestic parcel?

31.5 kg for a standard single parcel across the DHL eCommerce Iberia products. Heavier consignments move as multi-piece or palletised shipments on the business service, Parcel Europlus Domestic.

My parcel arrived damaged. How long do I have to claim?

Report visible damage to the driver at the door. Otherwise DHL eCommerce Spain sets a window of 7 calendar days for a domestic shipment, and 7 working days for an international one, to report it through its complaints form, with the shipment reference and photographs. If the parcel came from a shop, the shop is DHL's contracting party and normally has to lodge the claim.

How do I contact DHL about a Spanish domestic parcel?

Contact the sender first: DHL's contract for a shop's parcel is with the shop, and the shop is the party entitled to open a case. If the parcel is neither out for delivery nor at a ServicePoint, DHL eCommerce Spain takes enquiries through the contact and claims forms on its Spanish customer-service pages, which ask for the shipment number plus a phone number and email address. Current phone numbers are published on those pages and change from time to time, so take them from there rather than reusing an old one. DHL Express shipments are handled by an entirely different customer-service team.
