Will I have to pay customs duty or VAT on my parcel?

Possibly. The Mauritius Revenue Authority assesses imports, and VAT of 15% applies to most goods above the duty-free allowance. Individuals have an allowance of Rs 1,000 on gifts and personal items; duty and VAT are payable when the parcel value exceeds this. Customs assessment is also the most common reason an inbound parcel's tracking pauses for a few days.
