TNT Italy Tracking

TNT Italy is the Italian express network that FedEx now runs as FedEx Express Italy, and it is the one national TNT operation whose own website has already conceded the point: the footer of tnt.it reads "TNT è diventata FedEx" (TNT has become FedEx). TNT Italy tracking nevertheless still runs on the legacy Italian system, which is why a domestic Italian consignment is identified not by a plain number but by a lettera di vettura (the domestic waybill) carrying two letters in front of it, in the form NA12345678. The road network underneath is anchored on the Novara Road Hub, opened in January 2023 after a 70 million euro investment and able to sort 21,600 parcels an hour across 240 truck docks. Undelivered parcels divert to more than 1,500 Filiali (branches) and FedEx Location points rather than to a post office. New tnt.it registrations stopped on 1 April 2025.

Where a TNT Italy Consignment Number Actually Tracks

A TNT Italy domestic number still resolves on tnt.it in July 2026, ten years after FedEx completed its 4.4 billion euro purchase of TNT Express on 25 May 2016. The Italian tracker is the survivor of the integration, but it is a survivor in retreat, and Italy has gone further down the road to FedEx than any other large TNT country.

The tracking form on tnt.it states the rule that governs everything else on this page:

"Per le spedizioni nazionali inserisci il numero di lettera di vettura preceduto dalle due lettere identificative (es.: NA12345678). Per le spedizioni internazionali inserisci il numero di Connote (es.: 123456789 o GE123456789WW)." (TNT Italy, tnt.it tracking form, 2026. In English: for domestic shipments enter the waybill number preceded by the two identifying letters; for international shipments enter the Connote number.)

Three tools are therefore in play, and they do not overlap. The domestic tracker is tnt.it, and a lettera di vettura resolves there. An international TNT connote resolves on tnt.it as well and on the TNT Track and Trace tool at tnt.com. A 12-digit FedEx air waybill resolves on fedex.com and nowhere else.

What makes Italy different is that the Italian tracker no longer defends its own territory. Enter a number that belongs to a FedEx-operated shipment and tnt.it does not return an error: it announces a handover, telling the user "La tua spedizione sarà consegnata da FedEx" (your shipment will be delivered by FedEx) and that it is about to connect them to fedex.com to check the status there. The Italian tool has been rebuilt as a bridge into FedEx rather than as a rival to it.

The commercial retreat is dated. New account registrations on tnt.it ended on 1 April 2025, and customers wanting a domestic Italian service are sent to fedex.com to open one. Tracking, and only tracking, was left running. That is a sharper position than TNT France, where a 16-digit domestic bon de transport still resolves only on tnt.fr and refuses to appear on fedex.com at all, and sharper again than TNT Australia, where TNT survives as FedEx's domestic product line with its own separate tracker and no bridge between the two. Italy kept the number format and gave up the brand.

TNT Italy Tracking Number Format

The Italian identifier is the lettera di vettura, abbreviated LDV, and its domestic form is two letters followed by 8 digits, as in NA12345678. TNT calls the prefix simply "le due lettere identificative", the two identifying letters, and publishes no key mapping them to anything. They are issued by the originating branch, they are not a service code, and nothing about the service level can be read from them.

The paper document carries one more character than the tracker wants. TNT's own tracking guide is explicit about it:

"Spedizioni nazionali: inserisci nell'apposita finestra il/i numero/i di Lettera di Vettura, una per riga, indicando le due lettere iniziali e 8 numeri, quindi senza riportare l'ultimo numero singolo separato con un tratto (es. NA12345678-0 indicate NA12345678)." (FedEx Express, Guida al tracking online, 2022. In English: enter the two initial letters and 8 numbers, without the final single digit separated by a hyphen.)

A second domestic input exists and is easy to miss: the riferimento collo, or NCOL, a 15-digit parcel-level reference that tnt.it accepts in place of the LDV. International shipments use a connote instead, either 9 digits in the form 123456789 or the 13-character pattern GE123456789WW, and TNT accepts both spellings of the same consignment. A FedEx-branded shipment carries a 12-digit air waybill, which is a different identifier from a different system and is not interchangeable with any of these.

Where to Find TNT Italy Tracking Number

The lettera di vettura is created by the sender, not by the recipient, so it reaches a consumer through the shipper's paperwork rather than through TNT.

  • The dispatch confirmation email from the retailer, supplier or repairer that booked the collection.
  • The lettera di vettura itself, the transport document the sender completes and TNT signs on collection.
  • The routing label on the carton or pallet, where the barcode carries the same number.
  • The "Lasciato avviso" card left at the address after a failed delivery attempt.
  • The TNT invoice, which also carries the Codice Cliente (customer number) needed for a sender-reference search.
  • Shipment history in myTNT, for senders despatching on a TNT account.

A shop order number is not a lettera di vettura and will not resolve on any TNT tool. The commonest Italian mistake is subtler than that: copying the LDV off the paper document complete with its trailing hyphen and check digit, so that NA12345678-0 goes into the search box instead of NA12345678. Searching by riferimento mittente, the sender's own reference, rather than by LDV is possible but not self-contained, because the tracker also demands the Codice Cliente from the invoice, padded with leading zeros to 8 digits.

TNT Italy Tracking Number Example

Seven identifiers circulate around Italian TNT and FedEx shipments, and each one is accepted by exactly one tool.

IdentifierPattern and lengthWhat it indicates and where it resolves
Lettera di vettura (LDV), domestic2 letters plus 8 digits, for example NA12345678The primary Italian domestic tracking ID. Resolves on the tnt.it tracker. The two letters are TNT's "lettere identificative" and are not a published service code.
Lettera di vettura as printed2 letters, 8 digits, a hyphen and one further digit, for example NA12345678-0The form on the paper document. The trailing hyphen and digit must be dropped before the number is entered.
Riferimento collo (NCOL)15 digitsA parcel-level reference accepted by the tnt.it domestic tracker as an alternative to the LDV.
Connote, international9 digits, for example 123456789The TNT international consignment number. Resolves on tnt.it and on TNT Track and Trace at tnt.com.
Connote with letters, international13 characters: 2 letters, 9 digits, 2 letters, for example GE123456789WWThe same international consignment written in full. TNT accepts either spelling. The prefix does not reliably indicate the service.
Riferimento mittenteFree text set by the senderThe sender's own reference. Traceable only for consignments submitted by EDI, and only alongside the Codice Cliente padded with zeros to 8 digits.
FedEx air waybill12 digitsAppears when the sender booked FedEx rather than TNT. Resolves on fedex.com only.

TNT Italy Tracking Status Guide

TNT Italy publishes no public list of status codes, so the labels below are drawn from the vocabulary its own tracker, its Guida al tracking online (online tracking guide) and its Condizioni Generali di Trasporto (general conditions of carriage) use, with the Italian term first and the English sense after it. Nine of the ten stages apply to a domestic consignment; sdoganamento appears only where a border is crossed.

StatusWhat it means
Spedizione non trovata (Shipment not found)The search returned nothing. TNT's guidance is to re-check the LDV, the connote or the sender reference and repeat the search. It can take up to an hour for a new shipment to appear in the system at all.
Ritiro effettuato (Collected)A TNT driver has taken the goods from the sender. This is the first scan proving the consignment physically exists rather than only on a printed label.
In transito (In transit)The consignment is moving between Filiali on the Italian road network, typically overnight through a hub such as Novara.
Arrivo in Filiale (Arrived at branch)A branch scan. The consignment has reached a TNT station and is queued for the delivery round.
Sdoganamento (Customs clearance)The consignment is with customs. On an Italian address this stage appears only for Livigno, Campione d'Italia, San Marino and the Vatican, which sit outside one or both of the EU customs and VAT territories.
In consegna (Out for delivery)The consignment is loaded on the delivery vehicle for the day.
Lasciato avviso (Notice left)The driver could not deliver and left a card at the address. TNT's terms treat the notice as sufficient evidence of the attempt, and domestically there is only one attempt.
In giacenza (Held in storage)The consignment has been placed on hold at the branch and an avviso di giacenza (a hold notice) has been issued. Nothing moves until the sender instructs TNT in writing, and storage charges begin to run.
Giacenza svincolata (Hold released)The hold has been lifted and the consignment has been reissued under a new lettera di vettura, shown in the tracker's "Documento sostitutivo" field. The original number stops producing events at this point.
Consegnata (Delivered)The consignment has been handed over. Where delivery is complete the tracker also displays the name of the person who signed for it.

Why TNT Italy Tracking Is Not Updating or Not Working

Reports of TNT Italy tracking not updating, not working or being down resolve into eight situations on the Italian network, and only the last of them is a delivery problem.

The trailing check digit is still on the number. This is Italy's own trap and it has no equivalent in France or Australia. The lettera di vettura is printed as NA12345678-0 and the tracker wants NA12345678. TNT's tracking guide spells the rule out, but the number is usually copied off the document rather than out of the guide, and the hyphen produces an empty result on a perfectly valid consignment.

The number is on the wrong tool. A 12-digit FedEx air waybill does not resolve on tnt.it, and a lettera di vettura does not resolve on the international Track and Trace tool at tnt.com. Where the shipment is one FedEx now operates, tnt.it says so and offers to forward the search to fedex.com rather than failing outright.

The label exists but nothing has been collected. An LDV goes live when the sender prints it, which can be a day or more before a driver arrives, and TNT adds that a shipment can take up to an hour to appear in the system even after that. A brand new number returning nothing is expected behaviour.

The connote has been recycled. TNT's own Italian tracking help is blunt about it: "i numeri a otto o nove cifre usati per controllare le spedizioni vengono riutilizzati ogni tre o quattro settimane", the eight or nine digit numbers used to check shipments are reused every three or four weeks. A search can therefore surface a consignment that is not the right one, and the right one is identified by date, origin and destination. The same page adds that shipments stay in the system for roughly 90 days, which is why an old number eventually returns nothing at all.

The consignment is on an overnight leg. Italian domestic express runs at night between Filiali, so a consignment collected in the late afternoon usually produces its next scan the following morning. A quiet 12-hour to 18-hour window on In transito is the normal shape of a next-day service, not a stall.

An avviso was left. Domestically TNT makes one delivery attempt, not two, and its Condizioni Generali di Trasporto treat the notice left at the address as sufficient evidence that the attempt happened. After that the consignment stops moving because nothing is being done to it.

The hold has been released onto a new number. This is the Italian cause that looks most like a lost parcel and is not one. When a giacenza is released, TNT reissues the consignment under a substitute waybill, and the original LDV goes silent while the goods travel under a different number. TNT's tracking guide describes the recovery: where the last status reads Giacenza Svincolata, the new number is in the "Documento sostitutivo" field and it is that number, not the old one, that produces events from then on.

The consignment is genuinely late. Where the last scan is more than two working days old and none of the above applies, the sender is the party to contact first. Under Italian law the contract of carriage is between the shipper and TNT, and TNT's own terms require the sender, not the recipient, to give written instructions to the competent Filiale.

Domestic Express and Economy Services Compared

TNT Italy sells four tracked domestic service lines, and the ceiling that matters is per parcel rather than per shipment: 30 kg on 10:00 Express against 70 kg on everything else. Maximum dimensions on all four are 2.4 x 1.2 x 1.8 metres.

ServiceCommitmentMax per parcelMax per shipmentCoverage
10:00 ExpressNext working day by 10:0030 kg210 kgThe narrowest network. TNT's published locality list carries no entries for Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardegna or Sicilia.
12:00 ExpressNext working day by 12:0070 kg500 kgWider than 10:00 Express, still thin across the south and the islands.
ExpressNext working day, during the working day70 kg1,000 kgThe general national line, parcels, documents and freight.
Economy ExpressA specified working day, during office hours70 kg1,000 kgDay-definite rather than time-definite, for parcels, pallets and freight.

Chargeable weight decides what the consignment costs. TNT Italy applies a volumetric multiplier of 250 to domestic services and 200 to international ones, so the same carton is charged differently on each leg. Its published national surcharge list adds the practical costs a recipient's address can trigger: 10 euro per parcel for manual handling on anything over 30 kg or with a longest side over 121 cm, 1 euro for delivery to a private address or to a floor, 3.50 euro when the recipient is not at home, 30 euro for a non-stackable parcel, and 150 euro on a shipment exceeding either 2.43 x 1.2 x 1.8 metres or 3 cubic metres.

Delivery and Transit Times

The baseline for an Italian domestic Express consignment is next working day, and the three timed tiers narrow that to 10:00 or 12:00. These are TNT's published commitments and should be read as estimates rather than guarantees: the carrier's Condizioni Generali di Trasporto exclude weekends, public holidays, non-working days in transit and destination countries, and delays caused by customs or public authorities from every quoted transit time.

Italian transit is not uniform, and the asymmetry runs north to south. The 10:00 Express locality list published on tnt.it is the clearest evidence: it carries no entries at all for Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardegna or Sicilia, so the fastest tier simply is not sold into most of the south or either large island. The gradient shows up again in the size limits, where a European export consignment may measure 2.4 x 1.2 x 1.5 metres from most of Italy but only 0.8 x 1.2 x 1.0 metres from Sicilia, Sardegna and Calabria.

Two further rules move an estimate. TNT's terms exclude "località particolarmente disagiate", the particularly hard-to-reach localities named in the commercial offer, from the standard services altogether, and its national surcharge list applies a Delivery Density supplement to medium and low density areas. Both mechanisms mean a mountain commune or a minor island is quoted case by case rather than off a national table.

Saturday is a partial working day rather than a delivery day. TNT's terms record that Filiali in the main Italian cities stay open on Saturday morning, where a consignment held in fermo deposito (held at the branch for collection) can be collected and outbound goods handed over, but the service itself does not run at weekends.

Missed Deliveries, Giacenza and the Substitute Waybill

Italy gives a domestic consignment one delivery attempt, not two. TNT's Condizioni Generali di Trasporto reserve the second attempt for international shipments, and they go further: where the first attempt fails, the notice left at the address is treated as sufficient evidence of the delivery having been attempted. A recipient who was out has already used up the network's patience.

What follows is giacenza, and it is a sender-driven process. TNT issues an avviso di giacenza and, under article 1690 of the Italian Civil Code, informs the sender. The sender, not the recipient, must then give the competent Filiale workable written instructions. Where no written instruction arrives, TNT reserves the right to return the goods to the sender and charge the cost, within 30 days of the avviso di giacenza being issued.

Redelivery is rationed. Where the sender asks for a new delivery and it fails again, TNT will write to the sender for a maximum of two svincoli, and after the second unsuccessful release it returns the consignment immediately, charging all transport and storage costs. Unpaid, TNT can exercise a lien under articles 2756 to 2761 of the Civil Code and deposit or sell the goods, and after a year in giacenza the sender who has not paid gives up any remaining right to them.

The mechanic that breaks tracking is the release itself. A svincolo does not resume the old consignment: it creates a documento sostitutivo, a substitute waybill with its own lettera di vettura, and the goods travel on under the new number while the old one stops updating. The tracker signals this by showing Giacenza Svincolata as the last status and putting the replacement number in the Documento sostitutivo field. Nothing comparable happens on a Poste Italiane item, where a giacenza sits at a post office under the same code until it is collected or returned, which is why Italian recipients familiar with the postal model misread the TNT version as a loss.

The softer route is to avoid the attempt failing at all. TNT Italy's Proximity network offers delivery to more than 1,500 Filiali and FedEx Location points across the country, and its e-commerce services add a Pre-Delivery Message that lets the recipient change the date or the place hours before the van arrives, delivery to a neighbour or a safe place, cash on delivery, delivery by appointment and a scheduled redelivery.

Loss and Damage Claims Under Italian Transport Law

Italian law, not TNT policy, decides what a damaged consignment is worth, and the number is low. Article 1696 of the Civil Code, as amended by Legislative Decree 286 of 21 November 2005, caps a domestic road carrier's liability at 1 euro per kilogram of goods lost or damaged. TNT Italy adopts the figure in its own terms:

"Se il trasporto della vostra spedizione è effettuato via terra o via aerea in ambito nazionale, la nostra responsabilità ... sarà disciplinata dall'art. 1696 c.c. così come modificato dal Decreto Legislativo 21.11.2005 n. 286, e dunque limitata ad 1 € (un Euro) per ogni chilogrammo di merce perduta od avariata." (TNT, Condizioni Generali di Trasporto, art. 12.1 c. In English: for domestic land or air transport our liability is governed by article 1696 of the Civil Code and limited to 1 euro per kilogram of goods lost or damaged.)

A 2 kg parcel of electronics is therefore worth 2 euro on the standard domestic contract. International legs are treated far more generously: a road consignment under the CMR Convention is covered at 8.33 Special Drawing Rights per kilogram, roughly 10 euro, and an air consignment under the Warsaw or Montreal Convention at 19 SDR per kilogram, roughly 20 euro. The gap between a Milan to Rome parcel and a Milan to Munich parcel is a matter of which treaty applies, not of what the goods are worth.

The cap can be bought up, by the sender and in advance. TNT's national extension, NTLL, raises the domestic limit to 10 euro per kilogram up to a maximum of 200 euro per shipment. The international extension, ITLL, raises it to 45 euro per kilogram for consignments of 10 kg and over, with a maximum of 450 euro on shipments below 10 kg and an overall ceiling of 25,000 euro per shipment. Neither extension covers laptops, plasma or LCD screens, jewellery, precious metals and stones, money, glass, porcelain, art, antiques, documents, or memory cards and other data carriers.

The deadline is set at the doorstep. TNT treats a consignment as delivered in good condition unless the recipient enters a specific riserva (a written reservation) for damage or shortage on the delivery document at the moment of collection. Where the damage or shortage could not be seen then, a written claim must follow within 8 calendar days of receipt on a domestic shipment, matching article 1698 of the Civil Code, against 7 calendar days on an international road consignment under the CMR and 21 calendar days by air. The goods and the original packaging must be kept available for TNT to inspect.

Which Countries Does TNT Italy Deliver To?

TNT Italy international tracking runs over the FedEx Express network, which reaches more than 220 countries and territories, and over TNT's European road network, which is the part of the old business FedEx kept intact. The 9:00 Express product from Italy is the narrowest of them, sold to roughly 50 named countries rather than to the whole network.

Domestically the network is national and physical, and it has been rebuilt around one site. The Piacenza sorting hub was closed on 29 March 2021 on the grounds that it no longer played a central role, and FedEx moved the volume into an expanded ring of national centres at Padova, Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Fiano Romano, Firenze and Napoli Teverola, hiring 800 people to run them. The replacement hub at San Pietro Mosezzo near Novara opened in January 2023 and is now the anchor of the Italian road network.

  • Domestic Italy: the whole country from the Filiale network, with more than 1,500 Filiali and FedEx Location collection points, and timed Express tiers that thin out sharply across Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardegna and Sicilia.
  • Western Europe: France, Germany, Spain, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Portugal and Switzerland, on next-day timed Express or day-definite Economy Express over the road network.
  • Central and Eastern Europe: Poland, Czechia, Hungary, Romania, Slovenia, Croatia and the Baltic states, largely by road from Novara.
  • Enclaves and special territories: San Marino, Vatican City, Livigno and Campione d'Italia, all of which need customs paperwork despite sitting on or inside Italian soil.
  • Rest of the world: more than 220 countries and territories through FedEx Express, among them the United States, Canada, China, Japan, Australia and the Gulf states, on timed Express or Economy Express.

Customs Inside Italy: Livigno, Campione d'Italia, San Marino and the Vatican

Four Italian addresses turn a domestic parcel into a customs event, and they are the reason a TNT Italy tracking page can show sdoganamento on a consignment that never leaves the country. They do not all work the same way, and one of them changed recently enough that most shipping guidance is still wrong about it.

Livigno is the strict case. The Alpine comune in the province of Sondrio sits outside the EU customs territory and outside the EU VAT territory, so goods sent there from mainland Italy require the ordinary export customs formalities even though they travel from Italy to Italy. A commercial invoice and a customs declaration are needed, and the consignment clears customs on the way in.

Campione d'Italia is the case that moved. The exclave on Lake Lugano, surrounded by Swiss territory, joined the EU customs territory on 1 January 2020 and is no longer outside it, so customs duties no longer apply. It remains outside the EU VAT territory, where a local consumption tax, the ILCC, applies at rates aligned to Swiss VAT. Because the road route from Italy crosses Switzerland, goods are declared under a transit procedure on a T2 document. Anyone still treating Campione as a duty territory is working from pre-2020 rules.

San Marino is a sovereign state enclosed by Italy and it is a third country for VAT, notwithstanding its customs union with the EU, which removes duties. A consignment to Serravalle or Borgo Maggiore travels on a domestic-looking Italian road leg but needs the specific Italy to San Marino VAT procedure, and the recipient's paperwork obligations are those of an import, not of a domestic delivery.

Vatican City is outside the EU customs territory, the EU VAT territory and the EU excise territory alike, which makes it the most cleanly extra-EU address in Rome. A parcel crossing Saint Peter's Square changes customs regime without changing city.

For a recipient the practical consequence is narrow but sharp: a customs stage on an Italian tracking page is not necessarily evidence of an international shipment, and a consignment held there is waiting on documents rather than on a van.

Marketplace Collaborations

TNT Italy is a business express carrier by origin, and it does not appear as a checkout delivery option on Italian consumer marketplaces the way BRT Bartolini or GLS Italy do. Its parcels reach consumers indirectly, through merchants who put their own dispatches on a TNT account and through the shipping platforms that resell TNT labels to sellers on Amazon, eBay, Zalando and Shopify-based stores.

The consumer-facing tooling exists, and it has grown as e-commerce volume has. The Proximity network puts collection at more than 1,500 Filiali and FedEx Location points, the Pre-Delivery Message lets a buyer redirect a parcel hours before it arrives, myTNT Return handles reverse logistics for merchants, and contrassegno, the Italian cash-on-delivery convention that domestic sellers still rely on, is supported as an optional service alongside delivery by appointment, SMS alerts and proof of delivery.

Italy's parcel market splits along the same line the tracking does. High-volume consumer e-commerce runs through Poste Italiane and its SDA arm, through BRT and through GLS Italy; business express, pallets and time-critical freight run through TNT and FedEx. The consignments that put a lettera di vettura into a consumer's hands are typically the ones a supplier, a repairer or a wholesaler booked: a warranty return, a bulky appliance from a manufacturer's warehouse, or a pallet of stock arriving at a marketplace seller before anything is listed. For the buyer the rule that follows is procedural: a marketplace order number is not a lettera di vettura, and it will never resolve on tnt.it.

About TNT Italy

TNT's Italian business trades today as FedEx Express Italy, the successor to TNT Global Express S.p.A. Italy, whose registered office at Corso Lombardia 63 in San Mauro Torinese, outside Turin, still appears on the general conditions of carriage that govern every Italian consignment. The parent transaction is the one every TNT country shares: FedEx bought TNT Express N.V. for 4.4 billion euro in a deal that completed on 25 May 2016, and has been folding the two networks together ever since.

Italy's integration was a rebuild rather than a merger of equals. FedEx closed the Piacenza sorting hub on 29 March 2021, saying it no longer played a central role, redistributed the work across national centres at Padova, Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Fiano Romano, Firenze and Napoli Teverola, and hired 800 people to staff them. Around 700 warehouse workers were brought in-house in 2021, and more than 500 further direct hires were announced on 2 May 2022 for Milan, Monza and the new hub.

That hub is the centre of gravity of the modern network. The Novara Road Hub at San Pietro Mosezzo opened in January 2023 after a 70 million euro investment, occupies 32,000 square metres of buildings on a 210,000 square metre site, runs 3.73 km of sorting belt across 240 truck docks, and sorts 21,600 parcels, 8,000 small packages and documents and 4,000 heavy or bulky shipments an hour. It employs more than 450 people of 42 nationalities and is the largest FedEx road hub in Europe.

What has not been rebuilt is the tracking system. Ten years after the acquisition, an Italian domestic consignment is still a lettera di vettura with two letters and eight digits, it still resolves on tnt.it, and the giacenza still reissues it under a substitute waybill exactly as it did before FedEx arrived. The brand around it has gone: tnt.it says "TNT è diventata FedEx", new registrations closed on 1 April 2025, and the collection network is signposted as FedEx Location. Italy kept the plumbing and let the name go, which is the opposite of what happened in Australia and a long step past where France has stopped.

TNT Italy Common Questions:

How do I track a TNT Italy shipment?

Use tnt.it and check the shape of the number first. A domestic Italian shipment carries a lettera di vettura of two letters plus 8 digits, such as NA12345678, and resolves on the tnt.it tracker. An international TNT shipment carries a 9-digit connote such as 123456789, or the same number written as GE123456789WW, and resolves on tnt.it and on TNT Track and Trace at tnt.com. A 12-digit number is a FedEx air waybill and resolves only on fedex.com.

Why does my TNT Italy number return nothing even though it is correct?

Check for a trailing hyphen and digit. The lettera di vettura is printed on the paper document as NA12345678-0, but the tracker only accepts NA12345678. TNT states the rule in its own tracking guide: enter the two initial letters and 8 numbers, without the final single digit separated by a hyphen. Copying the number straight off the document is the single most common reason a valid Italian consignment appears not to exist.

Does TNT still exist in Italy, or is it FedEx now?

The brand is effectively gone and the system is not. The footer of tnt.it reads "TNT è diventata FedEx", the operating company is FedEx Express Italy, new account registrations on tnt.it stopped on 1 April 2025, and the pickup network is signposted as FedEx Location. What survives is the tracking system: the Italian lettera di vettura format is unchanged and tnt.it still resolves it in July 2026.

Can I track a TNT Italy number on fedex.com?

Not directly, but Italy is the one country where the two systems talk to each other. A lettera di vettura entered on fedex.com will not resolve. Entered on tnt.it, a number belonging to a shipment FedEx now operates does not simply fail: the site announces that the shipment will be delivered by FedEx and offers to connect the user to fedex.com to see the status. In France and Australia the two trackers stay strictly separate.

What does a TNT Italy tracking number look like?

A domestic lettera di vettura is two letters followed by eight digits, for example NA12345678. TNT calls the prefix "le due lettere identificative" and publishes no key for it, so the letters are not a service code and nothing can be read from them. International consignments use a 9-digit connote, or the 13-character form GE123456789WW. The tnt.it tracker also accepts a 15-digit riferimento collo, or NCOL, in place of the lettera di vettura.

Why is my TNT Italy tracking not updating or stuck on the same status?

The usual Italian causes are: the label was printed but the goods have not been collected, so no scan exists yet; the consignment is on an overnight leg between Filiali, which produces a normal 12-hour to 18-hour gap; an avviso was left after the single domestic delivery attempt and the parcel is now in giacenza; or the giacenza was released and the consignment is travelling under a new substitute waybill, which leaves the original number silent. Where the last scan is more than two working days old and none of these apply, contact the sender, who is the party to the contract of carriage.

What does Giacenza Svincolata mean and why did my tracking stop?

It means the hold has been released and the shipment has been reissued under a new number. TNT does not resume the original lettera di vettura after a svincolo: it creates a documento sostitutivo, a substitute waybill with its own LDV, and the goods travel under that one. The old number stops producing events. TNT's tracking guide gives the recovery: where the last status reads Giacenza Svincolata, click the number in the "Documento sostitutivo" field, and that new number carries the rest of the journey.

How many delivery attempts does TNT Italy make?

One, on a domestic Italian shipment. TNT's Condizioni Generali di Trasporto reserve the second attempt for international consignments, and they treat the notice left at the address after a failed attempt as sufficient evidence that delivery was attempted. After that the consignment goes into giacenza and only the sender can instruct TNT what to do with it.

How long will TNT Italy hold a parcel in giacenza?

The clock is set by the sender's silence, not by a fixed shelf life. TNT issues an avviso di giacenza and informs the sender under article 1690 of the Italian Civil Code. If no workable written instruction reaches the competent Filiale, TNT reserves the right to return the goods to the sender, charging the cost, within 30 days of the avviso being issued. Where the sender does ask for redelivery, TNT allows a maximum of two svincoli before returning the consignment immediately. Storage costs accrue throughout.

Where do I find my TNT Italy lettera di vettura?

It comes from the sender. Look in the dispatch confirmation email, on the lettera di vettura itself, on the label on the parcel, on the "Lasciato avviso" card left after a failed attempt, on the TNT invoice, or in myTNT shipment history if the sender ships on a TNT account. A shop order number is not a lettera di vettura and will not track. Searching by riferimento mittente instead also requires the Codice Cliente from the invoice, padded with leading zeros to 8 digits.

How fast is TNT Italy inside Italy?

The standard domestic Express commitment is next working day, with timed tiers delivering by 10:00 or by 12:00 and Economy Express running day-definite. These are commitments rather than guarantees, and TNT's terms exclude weekends, public holidays and customs delays from every quoted time. Coverage is not even: TNT's published 10:00 Express locality list carries no entries for Basilicata, Puglia, Calabria, Sardegna or Sicilia, so the fastest tier is not sold into most of the south or either large island.

How much can a TNT Italy domestic parcel weigh?

10:00 Express caps at 30 kg per parcel and 210 kg per shipment. 12:00 Express, Express and Economy Express allow 70 kg per parcel, with a shipment ceiling of 500 kg on 12:00 Express and 1,000 kg on Express and Economy Express. Maximum dimensions on all four are 2.4 x 1.2 x 1.8 metres. Anything over 30 kg, or with a longest side over 121 cm, attracts a manual handling surcharge of 10 euro per parcel.

Does a TNT parcel sent within Italy go through customs?

Usually no, but there are four exceptions and they are real. Livigno sits outside both the EU customs territory and the EU VAT territory, so a parcel sent there from mainland Italy needs export customs formalities. Campione d'Italia joined the EU customs territory on 1 January 2020, so duties no longer apply, but it stays outside the EU VAT territory and goods routed through Switzerland move under a T2 transit document. San Marino is a third country for VAT despite its customs union with the EU. Vatican City is outside the EU customs, VAT and excise territories entirely.

My TNT Italy parcel arrived damaged. How much can I claim?

On a domestic Italian shipment, very little. Article 1696 of the Civil Code, as amended by Legislative Decree 286 of 2005 and adopted in TNT's own terms, caps a domestic road carrier's liability at 1 euro per kilogram of goods lost or damaged. International road consignments are covered at 8.33 SDR per kilogram under the CMR, roughly 10 euro, and air consignments at 19 SDR per kilogram. Senders can buy the cap up in advance: the NTLL extension raises the domestic limit to 10 euro per kilogram up to 200 euro per shipment, and the ITLL extension raises the international limit to 45 euro per kilogram up to 25,000 euro per shipment.

What is the deadline for a TNT Italy damage claim?

Write a specific riserva (a written reservation) on the delivery document in the driver's presence before signing: TNT treats a consignment as delivered in good condition unless the recipient does. Where the damage or shortage could not be seen at delivery, a written claim must follow within 8 calendar days of receipt on a domestic shipment, which matches article 1698 of the Italian Civil Code. International road consignments under the CMR allow 7 calendar days, and air consignments 21. The goods and the original packaging must be kept available for TNT to inspect.

Who do I contact about a TNT Italy shipment?

Contact the sender first. Under TNT Italy's Condizioni Generali di Trasporto the contract of carriage is between the shipper and TNT, and it is the sender, not the recipient, who must give the competent Filiale written instructions about a consignment in giacenza. For recipient-side actions TNT runs its own tools on tnt.it: a redelivery form for a parcel with a "Lasciato avviso" card, and an online contact form. Because the operating company is now FedEx Express Italy and new tnt.it registrations closed on 1 April 2025, commercial and account enquiries are handled on fedex.com.

Why does my TNT search return the wrong shipment?

Because the numbers are recycled. TNT's own Italian tracking help states that the eight or nine digit numbers used to check shipments are reused every three or four weeks, so a connote is not permanently unique. Identify the right consignment by its date, origin and destination. The same page notes that shipments stay in the system for around 90 days, which is why an old number eventually returns nothing at all.
