Is Hermes the same as Evri?
Yes. The UK parcel carrier that now delivers under the name Evri is the same business that once delivered under the name Hermes, and the register makes that literal: one company, number 03900782, carried the name Hermes Parcelnet Limited until 15 May 2024 and has been Evri Limited since. Nothing was liquidated and nothing was sold off to make the change. The complication is that Hermes was never a single organisation. A separate parcel carrier still trades as Hermes in Germany, and a French luxury house founded in 1837 shares the name while having no parcel operation at all.
What the company register shows about the name change
Companies House records the UK rename as two separate entries three weeks apart in the spring of 2024. The main operating company, number 03900782, is registered at Capitol House, 1 Capitol Close, Morley, Leeds LS27 0WH, under SIC code 49410 for freight transport by road, and it has carried four names since it was incorporated on 22 December 1999.

The second company in that table, number 04245517, was incorporated on 3 July 2001 as Hermes General Service UK Limited and passed through an interim name on 23 April 2024 before settling on Evri Parcelnet Limited. Both records are public on the Companies House register, which lists every former name against the company number that held it.
The consumer brand moved before the registered names did, which is why 2024 dates can look wrong to anyone who remembers the switch happening earlier. Employment tribunal decisions published on GOV.UK name the respondent as Hermes Parcel Net Ltd T/a EVRi in case 3305883/2022, a decision updated on 5 December 2022. A UK company can trade under one name while remaining registered under another, and that is what happened here: the Evri livery was in public use in 2022, and the legal name caught up in 2024.
Five organisations answer to the name Hermes
At least five separate businesses trade internationally as Hermes or a close variant of it, and only two of them carry parcels. The name is not a group and has never functioned as one, which is the single most useful thing to know before searching for it.

The practical consequence is that one search term returns four different industries at once. A German recipient, a UK recipient and a handbag buyer are all typing the same word and expecting different companies to answer.
Hermes Germany did not rebrand, and still delivers
Hermes Germany GmbH still trades under the Hermes name and still runs a German parcel network, listing more than 17,000 Hermes PaketShops nationwide on myhermes.de, which carries a 2026 copyright line for that company. The German services keep the Hermes prefix throughout: Hermes Päckchen and Pakete for the shipment classes, Hermes WunschZustellung for delivery preferences, and a myHermes account for senders.
The German business is also publishing under its own name. Its press office at newsroom.hermesworld.com issued releases dated 11 March 2026 on emission free delivery in more than 80 city centres, 23 June 2026 on the KEP shipment volume study, and 23 July 2026 on parcel logistics. That newsroom covers Hermes Germany only and does not publish for the UK operation.
The German service range is built entirely around the Hermes name. Senders choose between Hermes Päckchen and Hermes Pakete for the two size classes, request a Hermes Box or a Mobiler Paketschein that removes the need to print a label, and businesses sending more than 300 parcels a year use a separate myHermes Business account. None of those product names changed when the UK operation dropped the Hermes brand.
For a reader holding a German parcel, the operational point is short. Hermes Germany is a live carrier with its own tracking, its own PaketShop estate and its own customer service, so a German parcel is not a parcel from a retired brand.
What changed for a UK customer, and what did not
The rename changed the brand on the label, the domain, the app and the customer service channels, and left the delivery operation attached to the same registered company, 03900782. Depots, couriers, drop off points and existing sender accounts were not transferred to a new legal entity, because there was no new legal entity to transfer them to.
The visible residue is naming rather than mechanics. The former group domain hermesworld.com now resolves to Evri's UK site, the myHermes consumer brand has gone from UK facing pages, and drop off points that were Hermes ParcelShops are Evri ParcelShops in the same retail units.
Contact routes moved with the brand. A UK query about a parcel goes to Evri under its current name, and a query about a German parcel goes to Hermes Germany, even though both parcels may have been described as Hermes deliveries in the same household a few years apart.

Whether an old Hermes reference still resolves
A reference issued under the Hermes brand and a reference issued under the Evri brand were produced by the same registered company, number 03900782, so they are the same kind of parcel reference rather than two competing schemes. The rename did not invalidate references, retire a numbering system or move parcels onto a different network.
What limits an old code is scan retention rather than branding. A tracking record is a list of scans against one shipment, and once that shipment is closed and aged out of the live system there is nothing left to display, which produces an empty result that reads like a broken number. The same applies to a code issued last month under the Evri name and to one issued years ago under the Hermes name.

Which name appears on paperwork from before 2024
A document dated before 2024 that names Hermes is correct rather than out of date. A UK contract, invoice, insurance schedule or tribunal listing issued while the register still read Hermes Parcelnet Limited names a company that exists today under a different name and the same number, 03900782, so quoting the number alongside the name removes the ambiguity from any correspondence.
The register itself is a reminder that names get reused. A second UK company, number 06851446, also carried the name Hermes Parcelnet Limited and now trades as Parcelnet Limited, and a search of the register for the term evri returns 367 matches across unrelated trades including construction, roofing and food supply. Neither the retired name nor the current one is unique to the parcel carrier.
The myHermes name splits along the same border. In Germany myHermes is the current customer account brand on myhermes.de; in the UK the myHermes consumer service was folded into Evri, so a UK reader who remembers a myHermes login and a German reader who uses one in 2026 are describing two different systems.
For a consumer the practical version is shorter. A dispatch note, a returns label or a delivery card that says Hermes and relates to a UK address refers to the operation now called Evri, and nothing on it needs to be reissued for a parcel to be traced.
Who owns Evri, and what the competition regulator recorded
The Competition and Markets Authority recorded Evri Limited as owned by funds managed by Apollo Capital Management L.P. when it examined Evri's acquisition of DHL eCommerce UK Limited in 2025. The CMA described the transaction in its own case record.
"Evri Limited (EVRi)... will acquire DHL eCommerce UK Limited (DHL eCommerce UK) from Deutsche Post AG (DHL Group) and DHL Group will acquire a minority stake in EVRi." (Competition and Markets Authority, EVRi / DHL merger inquiry case page, 5 September 2025.)
The case ran to a short timetable. The CMA opened its invitation to comment on 11 June 2025, launched the formal Phase 1 investigation on 29 July 2025, announced its decision on 4 September 2025 and published it on 5 September 2025, clearing the transaction unconditionally at Phase 1. Ownership is a poor guide to which carrier is holding a parcel, and this sequence shows why. A shareholder can change without a single label, tracking reference or ParcelShop changing, while a rename changes every label and no shareholder at all.
Hermès the fashion house, and the other companies on the register
Hermès International is a French luxury goods maker founded in 1837 that reported revenue of 16,002 million euros for 2025 and employed 26,494 people at the end of that year. It describes its own business in craft terms rather than logistics terms.

Spelling is the fastest way to separate the two. The fashion house writes its name with a grave accent, Hermès, and pronounces it in French; the parcel businesses in the UK and Germany used the plain form, Hermes. Anyone who has landed on a parcel page while looking for a Birkin bag, or on a luxury site while chasing a courier, has met the collision from the other direction. The luxury company's financial disclosures sit at finance.hermes.com, which also reports a net cash position of 12,773 million euros at the end of 2025, a balance sheet of a kind no parcel network carries.
The UK company register adds two more claimants to the name that have nothing to do with either. Euler Hermes is a trade credit insurance business with several UK and Belgian registrations, and Federated Hermes Limited, company number 01661776, is a fund manager that was previously Hermes Fund Managers Limited and before that Hermes Pensions Management Limited. Neither has ever delivered a parcel.
How to tell which Hermes a parcel belongs to
Six pieces of evidence settle which Hermes a parcel belongs to, and the destination country resolves it on its own in most cases. A parcel moving inside the United Kingdom is an Evri parcel; a parcel moving inside Germany under the Hermes name is a Hermes Germany parcel.

A cross border order confuses the test only briefly. Where a German retailer ships to a UK address, a parcel can begin under one brand and finish under another, and the tracking link that arrives by email is the reliable indicator of which operator is answering for it at that moment.
