GDEX Tracking
GDEX tracking follows parcels moved by GD Express Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian express courier founded in 1997 that reaches more than 70,000 domestic destinations and ships to over 200 countries (GDEX, 2024). Paste your GDEX tracking number into the tracker on this page to see the latest scan, current location, and delivery status in real time. A GDEX tracking number (also called a consignment number) is the 13-character code printed on the label and shown in your order or shipping confirmation.
GDEX Tracking Number Format
A GDEX tracking number is a 13-character code that begins with the letters "MY", the ISO country code for Malaysia. It is also called a consignment number or AWB (air waybill) number, and merchants sometimes label it simply the GDEX tracking ID.
The structure is fixed: "MY" is followed by three digits identifying the GDEX branch that processed the shipment, then six digits for the consignment number, and two final digits that act as a checksum to verify the code. A typical example looks like MY37063922609. Some marketplace and cross-border shipments carry a longer alphanumeric reference, so a GDEX label can occasionally show a code between 10 and 15 characters, but the standard domestic format is the 13-character MY number.
The GDEX tracking number is not the same as the seller's order number. An order ID is generated by the shop (Shopee, Lazada, or a brand website) and identifies your purchase; the GDEX consignment number identifies the physical parcel inside the GDEX network. Only the GDEX number returns live scan events.
Where to Find GDEX Tracking Number
The GDEX tracking number appears wherever the shipment is confirmed to the recipient. Common locations include:
- The shipping confirmation email or SMS sent after the seller books the parcel with GDEX.
- The order or shipment page of the marketplace account (Shopee, Lazada) once the order status changes to shipped.
- The GDEX consignment note (the printed label) attached to the parcel, shown as the barcode reference.
- The counter receipt or lodge-in slip issued when a parcel is dropped off at a GDEX branch or agent.
For marketplace orders, the number is usually surfaced only after the seller hands the parcel to GDEX, so a freshly placed order may not show a code yet. If only an order ID is visible, wait for the shipping notification, which carries the actual MY consignment number.
GDEX Tracking Number Example
GDEX uses a small set of number formats depending on the service and origin. The table below lists the patterns seen on GDEX shipments, with what each one indicates.
| Format / Pattern | Typical Length | What It Indicates / Where You See It |
|---|---|---|
| MY + 11 digits (e.g. MY37063922609) | 13 characters | Standard domestic consignment number. "MY" = Malaysia origin, next 3 digits = originating branch, next 6 = consignment number, last 2 = checksum. |
| All-numeric consignment (e.g. 370639226) | 9-10 digits | Commonly seen internal or legacy consignment reference. The digits alone do not indicate a specific service; use the full MY code where available. |
| Alphanumeric reference | 10-15 characters | Marketplace or cross-border shipments may show a longer mixed letters-and-numbers reference generated for the platform. Enter it exactly as printed. |
Enter the code exactly as shown, including the "MY" prefix and with no spaces. The prefix marks Malaysian origin, not a service level, so the prefix alone does not tell you whether a parcel moved by next-day or economy service.
GDEX Tracking Status Guide
GDEX tracking moves through a sequence of scan events from pickup to delivery, and each status describes where the parcel is and what happens next. The table below explains the statuses commonly seen on a GDEX shipment.
| Status | Description |
|---|---|
| Pickup / Collected | GDEX has collected the parcel from the sender or it has been lodged in at a branch or agent. The consignment number is now active. |
| Received at origin branch | The parcel has been booked in at the originating GDEX branch and is waiting for the trunk line to the sorting hub. |
| In transit to hub | The parcel is on a truck to the Central Clearing Hub, where all consignments are sorted under the hub-and-spoke model. |
| Sorted at hub | The parcel has been processed at the central hub and routed toward the destination branch. |
| In transit to destination | The parcel is moving by truck or flight toward the destination branch serving the delivery address. |
| Received at destination branch | The parcel has arrived at the local GDEX branch and is queued for the delivery run. |
| Out for delivery | A GDEX rider or driver is carrying the parcel for delivery to the address, usually the same working day. |
| Delivery attempted / failed | GDEX tried to deliver but no one was available, the address was incomplete, or access was denied. A re-attempt is scheduled. |
| Held at branch / available for collection | The parcel is waiting at the branch for a re-attempt or for the recipient to self-collect. |
| Customs clearance (international) | An inbound or outbound international parcel is being processed by customs in the origin or destination country. |
| Delivered | The parcel was handed over and, where applicable, the proof of delivery or signature was captured. |
Why GDEX Tracking Is Not Updating or Not Working
GDEX tracking that is not updating usually means the parcel is between scan points rather than lost, and most cases resolve within a working day or two. The reasons below explain what each situation means and what to do.
Awaiting the first scan. A brand-new consignment number goes live only once GDEX physically collects or lodges in the parcel. If the seller printed the label but has not handed the parcel over, the number can show no information for a day. Wait until the pickup scan appears.
In transit between branches. Under the hub-and-spoke model, a parcel can travel from the origin branch to the Central Clearing Hub and on to the destination branch with no intermediate scan for a day or more, especially for East Malaysia or outskirt routes. No new event does not mean the parcel has stopped.
Customs clearance. International shipments can pause at customs in the origin or destination country. Clearance timing depends on the authority and any duties owed, and tracking resumes once the parcel is released.
Failed delivery attempt. If delivery was attempted but could not be completed, the status may sit at held or attempted until the next run or a self-collection. Confirm the address and contact details are complete.
Wrong or incomplete number. A missing "MY" prefix, a transposed digit, or an order ID entered instead of the consignment number returns no result. Recheck the code against the shipping confirmation and enter it exactly.
Genuinely delayed. Peak-season volume, flight availability to East Malaysia, weather, or an operational backlog can hold a parcel longer than the service window. If there is no movement for several days beyond the estimate, contact the sender first, then GDEX, quoting the consignment number.
Services and Delivery Times Compared
GDEX runs a range of domestic and cross-border services, from same-day urgent delivery to freight and e-commerce fulfilment. The table summarises the main tracked services and typical timing.
| Service | Coverage | Typical Delivery Time |
|---|---|---|
| Next Day Delivery | Serviced areas and major towns in Peninsular Malaysia | Door-to-door within 24 hours in serviced areas |
| Same Day Delivery | Within serviced urban areas, for urgent shipments | Same day as pickup, if collected before the cut-off time |
| East Malaysia delivery | Major towns in Sabah and Sarawak | 1 to 3 working days (3 to 5 days for outskirt areas) |
| International shipping | Door-to-door to over 200 countries | Next day to several working days, depending on destination and customs |
| Land freight (FTL / LTL) | Malaysia and nearby ASEAN countries (China, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos) | Scheduled B2B freight, timing by route |
| Cash on Delivery (COD) | E-commerce parcels within Malaysia | As per the underlying delivery service |
GDEX also offers e-commerce logistics, warehousing, storage and distribution, and air and sea freight for businesses shipping at scale.
Delivery and Transit Times Across Malaysia
GDEX delivers to more than 70,000 destinations across East and West Malaysia through a network of 136 stations (GDEX, 2024). In serviced areas and major towns of Peninsular Malaysia, next-day delivery is the standard, with door-to-door handover within 24 hours.
For East Malaysia, delivery to major towns in Sabah and Sarawak typically takes 1 to 3 working days, and 3 to 5 working days to outskirt areas, subject to flight availability. Timing can extend during festive peaks and around public holidays, when parcel volume rises across all Malaysian couriers.
The hub-and-spoke structure routes every parcel through a Central Clearing Hub, so a shipment from a peninsular town to Borneo passes through the origin branch, the central hub, a flight or trunk leg, and the destination branch before the final delivery run.
Returns, Claims, and Lost or Damaged Parcels
GDEX operates a defined claims process for parcels that are lost or damaged in transit. A loss should be reported to GDEX within 14 days of shipment submission, and any damage should be reported within 24 hours of delivery (GDEX, 2024).
According to GDEX, a claim must be submitted within 14 days from the shipment pick-up date or 72 hours upon arrival at the destination, whichever is earlier, and standard claims are processed within 14 working days from the date GDEX receives the relevant documents.
"Your claim must be submitted within fourteen (14) days from the shipment pick-up date or 72 hours upon arrival at the destination, whichever is earlier." (GDEX, Claims FAQ, 2024.)
To file, the claimant provides accurate shipment details and the required supporting documents, and GDEX manages the assessment. Shipment Protection (Enhanced Liability) can be added at booking to raise the compensation cap above the standard liability. For returns, the sender or marketplace arranges a reverse consignment, which is then tracked with a new GDEX number.
Which Countries Does GDEX Deliver To?
GDEX international tracking covers door-to-door shipments to more than 200 countries, with the parcel handled by GDEX in Malaysia and by partner networks in the destination country. Domestically, GDEX reaches over 70,000 destinations across every state in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.
Within the region, GDEX has built out an ASEAN footprint through associates and subsidiaries: it operates in Singapore directly, in Indonesia via its associate SAP Express, and in Vietnam through Noi Bai Express (Netco). Land freight runs to and from Malaysia and nearby countries including China, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos.
Example destinations by region include:
- Domestic: Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang, Johor Bahru, Ipoh, Malacca, Kota Kinabalu (Sabah), Kuching (Sarawak).
- Asia Pacific: Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Australia, Japan, South Korea.
- Europe: United Kingdom, Germany, France, Netherlands.
- North America: United States, Canada.
- Middle East: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia.
Within Malaysia, GDEX competes and interconnects with operators such as PosLaju, City-Link Express, SkyNet Malaysia, and Ninja Van, and recipients often receive parcels from several of these carriers depending on the seller's choice.
Cross-Border Customs and International Handoff
For international parcels, GDEX handles export from Malaysia and the shipment clears customs in both the origin and destination country before final delivery. Duties and taxes in the destination country are the responsibility of the recipient unless the seller has prepaid them.
On outbound shipments, GDEX or its freight arm manages the export documentation and hands the parcel to a partner or postal network for last-mile delivery abroad; on inbound shipments, GDEX takes over once the parcel clears Malaysian customs and delivers it domestically. Tracking may show a customs clearance status while the parcel is held for inspection or duty assessment, and resumes once the parcel is released.
Marketplace Collaborations
GDEX is a common last-mile and fulfilment partner for Malaysian e-commerce, and its Cash on Delivery service made it an early choice for online sellers. Parcels booked through the major Southeast Asian marketplaces frequently move on GDEX consignment numbers.
Shoppers who buy on Shopee and Lazada in Malaysia often see GDEX selected as the carrier at checkout, with the MY consignment number appearing once the seller ships the order. Cross-border parcels from China-based marketplaces such as AliExpress, Temu, and Shein can also be handed to GDEX for the Malaysian leg after clearing customs, so a single order may show a marketplace reference first and a GDEX number for the final delivery.
GDEX also provides warehousing and end-to-end e-commerce logistics for merchants, covering storage, order fulfilment, and COD collection alongside the standard parcel delivery.
What Is GDEX?
GDEX is the trading name of GD Express Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian express delivery company formed in 1997 to serve both domestic and international markets (GDEX, 2024). Its holding company, GD Express Carrier Bhd, listed on the ACE Market of Bursa Malaysia in May 2005 and transferred to the Main Market in August 2013.
The company operates a network of 136 stations, comprising 59 branches, 2 affiliate stations, 52 agents, and 23 lodge-in centres across East and West Malaysia. Its express operation follows a hub-and-spoke model: parcels are collected by branches, trucked to a Central Clearing Hub for sorting, and then routed to their destinations.
GDEX has expanded regionally, with a direct presence in Singapore, an associate stake in Indonesia's SAP Express, and a holding in Vietnam's Noi Bai Express (Netco). In 2016, Japan's Yamato Holdings, the country's largest parcel delivery company, took a stake in GDEX of around 22.8 percent through a private placement and share purchase, strengthening its logistics and technology base. Today GDEX offers express parcel delivery, freight, warehousing, and e-commerce logistics across Malaysia and the wider ASEAN region.
